The 7th edition of the International Film Festival ERA NEW HORIZONS (7. Międzynarodowy Festiwal Filmowy ERA NOWE HORYZONTY) closed with premiere screening of Control by Anton Corbijn.
460 films were screened during 11 days: 231 full- lenght feature films and documentaries as well as 229 medium- and short-length films from 47 countries. About 130 titles were presented in Wrocław for the first time. All together647 shows took place for which 123 000 tickets were sold.
Three competition cycles were presented: New Horizons International Competition , New Polish Film Competition and Polish Short Film Competition.
4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (4 luni, 3 septamini si 2 zile ) – Cristian Mungiu film enthusiastically received by the audience and critics at the International Film Festival in Cannes (FIPRESCI award) was the Festival's opening screening.
This year's laureate of Krzysztof Mętrak's prize, awarded to young promising critics, is Jakub Socha.
Novelty in this edition - Screenings in the Town Square - gave the participants as well as the people of Wrocław an opportunity to admire film art in a picturesque scenery of the old town (e.g. Amarcord by Federico Fellini; Zidane – a 21st Century Portrait by Douglas Gordon, Philippe Parreno).
About 1000 guests from Poland and abroad visited the festival.
326 journalists from Poland and abroad were accredited.
For the second time the main patron of Era New Horizons Film Festival was Wrocław.
Polish Digital Telephony ERA network operator (Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa operator sieci ERA), is the main festival sponsor for the fifth time.
8th edition of the International Film Festival ERA NEW HORIZONS will take place on 17-27 July 2008.
